“I got a call from him,” Abigail continued, “he told me he’d seen the Firebird and made a wish, but nothing had happened. I thought he was full of shit of course. But I went to his place anyways, god, what a fucking mistake. This is going to sound crazy, but when the door opened, Kirk wasn’t there. It was just his clothes.”

“You couldn’t see him?”

“You know what fae can do. It had his phone. It was wearing his clothes, using his voice. It was putting on this surprised act, asking me what was wrong, then saying the Firebird must have made it invisible. I was seconds away from death, but I did what any good paranormal investigator does: I caught it on camera.”

“You have video evidence?” Cat asked, “Apologies for being rude, but could you send it to me? Are you planning on releasing it?” He eyed Dr. Morevna’s framed Ph.D.

“Hey man, what the hell is wrong with you? This is my dead colleague. The only copy is on our server but we aren’t putting it in any of our videos. It’s only there as proof for the witch who’s working with us. Or if too many people online accuse me of murder.”

“Right, it’s just- have you considered the possibility that it was Kirk, and he really had become a fledgling?”

Another cold laugh. “Even if the Firebird was real, I don’t think it could do something like that. Videos about it rake in the views but fairy tales are just that. Tales.”

Also: I'm opening commissions for the first time in 2 years. While I'd like to work towards being able to update Kata twice a week again, I could really use some extra cash this Summer. For clarification, I'm not having a financial emergency & am able to live comfortably due to savings, I've just had less income than expected.
