The initial stage of the ritual was over quicker than she’d anticipated, as the light faded until it only glowed white through her skin. Phoebe had kept her vision locked on the door, waiting for someone to burst through and discover her predicament, but now that she was thoroughly prepared there was only one thought haunting her: Where was the second person?

Consumptions required two people (well, both rituals required two entities, but that was beside the point.) A pair, doomed to be physically merged cell-by-cell until all that was left was… Phoebe didn’t actually know what the end result was. She’d overheard someone describe it as slop once and decided not to investigate further.

Image: An imagined, red-and-black vision of two Phoebes. They are imposed on top of each other, with their lines blending together. They are yelling and crying. End description.

Phoebe wondered if her captor was going to bind himself to her, if this was some convoluted suicide plan. Was she picked at random, or chosen specifically? If it was the latter, then...

She struggled against her bindings, realizing that she was able to struggle now that the first phase of the ritual was complete. With that knowledge, she screamed as loud as she could, but the sound was too muffled by the gag for anyone in another car to be able to hear her.
